You might try cooling the laptop with an external fan blowing air over it to see if this makes it last longer, that will confirm that it is a thermal issue to start with. Its hard to determine if its a hard drive thermal problem or some other internal component having thermal problems, but my gut tells me hard

I would guess however that it is a RAM chip issue. The timing is more than just coincidental. If the PC worked well before the RAM upgrade it is logical that this is the problem. This can be caused by Windows or applications, but in that case you usually will get an error message box, not a blue screen.
